NC youth leader Tiwari urges party to pave way for special convention

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress youth leader Shankar Tiwari has demanded that the party’s central leadership immediately pave the way for a special convention.

Tiwari, who is also a representative at the party convention and a signatory supporting the special convention, expressed serious dissatisfaction with the party leadership through a press note on Friday. He said there has been no sign that the regular convention would take place within the stipulated timeframe.

“The 49-day-long central working committee meeting, held after the turmoil of September 8 and 9, had set the convention for January 10 to 12, yet as of December 26, there is no indication it will proceed,” Tiwari said.

He criticized the party leadership for indirectly acknowledging that the regular convention cannot be held on schedule, calling it an insult to the majority of convention representatives demanding change within the party.

Tiwari accused the party’s inactivity of suppressing the demand for a special convention. “The so-called regular convention schedule was nothing more than a trick to weaken the call for a special convention,” he said.

Commenting on the timeline of the convention, which was expected to move at ‘rocket speed’, he warned that trusting it would be a major mistake for party workers.

Tiwari also stated that party workers who have already signed for the special convention can no longer remain silent and called for surrounding the central office to press the demand.
