KATHMANDU: The “Nihao! China” Tourism Promotion Programme concluded in Kathmandu on Thursday, showcasing cultural performances, promotional activities, and awards aimed at strengthening tourism ties between Nepal and China.
Organized by the China National Tourist Office (CNTO) in Kathmandu, the event highlighted tourism, culture, cuisine and shared experiences of both countries.
Speaking at the event, CNTO Kathmandu Director Xiao Jiang said the office is committed to building deeper connections between tourism institutions and enterprises of Nepal and China. She highlighted the tourism packages China is offering to Nepali and international visitors.
“We support and assist local governments in China to promote their tourism resources, travel routes and products in Nepal,” Director Xiao said. She added that the office is also working to develop coordination and cooperation platforms for the tourism sectors of both countries.
Director Xiao further noted that CNTO selects Nepali outbound tour operators to participate in the China International Travel Mart (CITM) and major tourism festivals, helping them explore the Chinese tourism market and establish business links with Chinese counterparts.
Mohan Suwal, an official at CNTO, shared insights on China’s tourism attractions and potential avenues for collaboration. He delivered a detailed presentation on the diversity of Chinese cuisine, noting that China is “rich in culinary traditions and food culture”.
Addressing the event, Ma Kun, General Manager of Air China in Kathmandu, pledged to contribute to expanding tourism cooperation between Nepal and China. He said Air China aims to serve as a platform to promote exchanges between the two countries.
The event was attended by diplomats, airline representatives, tourism stakeholders, and Nepali and Chinese travel agencies. Several top-selling travel companies were awarded for strong business performance and their collaboration with Air China.
Established in 2001, the China National Tourist Office in Kathmandu has been working to promote China’s tourism resources and facilitate Nepali travelers visiting China.
