Pathao Nepal introduces mandatory examination for riders

KATHMANDU: Ride-sharing service provider Pathao Nepal has revamped its rider selection and training system to make it more organized and transparent. Aspiring riders are now required to complete online training and pass a mandatory examination before joining the platform.

According to Pathao Director Suraksha Hamal, prospective riders must have a Blue Book, driving license, and third-party insurance. Applicants upload these documents via the Pathao Drive app, after which the company verifies them within 24 hours.

Once the account is verified, applicants must complete the online training available on the app. Candidates are required to score at least 80 percent in the online exam. Those who fail can retake the training and exam the following day.

Upon successful completion, an agreement letter is sent via SMS. Riders can officially begin service only after signing the agreement. Hamal noted that this system is essential to maintain safety and professional service standards.

Pathao data shows that nearly 85 percent of applicants pass the exam on their first attempt. Active Pathao riders reportedly earn an average monthly income of Rs 40,000–50,000.

The new system aims to make the rider selection process digital, transparent, and safety-oriented.
