14th EU Film Festival set to screen in Pokhara starting Nov 21

KATHMANDU: The 14th European Union Film Festival (EUFF) will be held in Nepal from November 14-16 at Chhaya Centre, Kathmandu, and in Pokhara from November 21-23.

This year’s edition features 25 films, including 10 European feature films, six UK short films nominated for BAFTA awards, and nine Nepali short films, according to the organisers.

Bidya Maharjan, Information Officer of the European Union, said the films were selected based on themes such as identity, social life, resistance, and transformation. “The chosen films reflect courage, memory, hope, language, and culture,” she added.

Selected feature films include Banjo from Portugal, Je’vida from Finland, Happy from Austria, Without Air from Hungary, and The Girl from Tomorrow from France and Italy. BAFTA-nominated UK short films include Wander to Wonder, Rock Paper Scissors, Mog’s Christmas, and Milk and Adios, alongside Nepali short films chosen by local filmmakers and film-related organizations.

The EU Delegation to Nepal is organizing the festival. All films will be screened free of charge with English subtitles. Various events will also be held to strengthen connections between arts, industry, and learning, Maharjan emphasized.
