Complaint filed against former AIG Devendra Subedi at Cyber Bureau over false propaganda

KATHMANDU: A complaint has been filed at the Cyber Bureau against former Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Police Devendra Subedi, accusing him of spreading false information on social media.

According to the complaint, Subedi allegedly circulated misleading claims that two days before the fire incident at the residence of CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, two truckloads carrying Rs 20 million in cash were secretly moved from the premises.

The Maoist Centre’s secretariat lodged the complaint, arguing that Subedi’s statements amounted to defamation and character assassination of the party leadership. “False and fabricated content was disseminated with the intent to tarnish the image of the party and its leadership,” the complaint states.

Police officials confirmed that the Cyber Bureau has received the complaint and is studying the matter. The Bureau is expected to initiate an inquiry to determine whether the circulated materials violate existing cybercrime and defamation laws.
