National Assembly Chair urges Prime Minister to hold elections 35 days before members’ term ends

National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal met with Prime Minister Sushila Karki to discuss the upcoming National Assembly elections. During the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singha Durbar on Sunday, Chair Dahal informed Prime Minister Karki that the term of one-third of National Assembly members will expire on March 4, and as per legal provisions, the election should be conducted 35 days prior to that date.

New hostage list confirms Bipin Joshi among survivors held by Hamas

Nepali national Bipin Joshi has been confirmed alive, according to the latest list of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. His name appeared on the list of living hostages ahead of their expected release on Monday, as part of the initial phase of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel. The Times of Israel and Washington Post reported that Bipin is among those confirmed to be alive. Earlier, CNN had listed his status as “unknown,” but updated lists published by The Washington Post, The Times of Israel, and the Associated Press have now confirmed that he is alive.

CIB went to Mahara’s home after he failed to respond to summons

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested CPN (Maoist Centre) Vice-Chair Krishna Bahadur Mahara in connection with a three-year-old gold smuggling case involving 9 kilograms of gold hidden in vapes. SSP Shiv Kumar Shrestha, spokesperson for the CIB, said Mahara was taken into custody to present the case file in court.

Gen-Z protest at Tinkune, police use force 

Police used force against demonstrators demanding that Kathmandu’s Tinkune area be declared “Gen-Z Chowk.” The Gen-Z 2.0 (All Generations’ Representatives) campaign held the protest without local administration approval, calling for the area to be officially named Gen-Z Chowk.

President Paudel discharged from Hospital

President Ram chandra Paudel has been discharged from the Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center in Maharajgunj, where he was admitted on Saturday after falling ill during a meeting with representatives from Gen–Z at the Office of the President, Shital Niwas. The hospital confirmed his discharge today, following a day of treatment. In a statement issued on Saturday, the Center had already assured that President Poudel’s health condition was normal.

Gagan’s message: Let’s bid farewell to Deuba, Oli, and Dahal

Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has called for the departure of the three major party leaders, Sher Bahadur Deuba, KP Sharma Oli, and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, urging a new environment for dialogue. In a video message released on Sunday, Thapa emphasized that it is time to bid farewell to the top leaders. He criticized the “musical chair of power” among the three leaders over the past decade and stressed the need for a change in leadership.

Nepal edge past UAE by one run

Nepal clinched a thrilling one-run victory over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the ICC T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia-Pacific Qualifier Super Six stage. Chasing a 141-run target set by Nepal, UAE managed to score 139 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Despite a fine half-century from Alishan Sharafu, who scored 58 runs, UAE fell just short. Dhruv Parashar added 38 runs to the total.

Ilam locals forced to travel through damaged bridge despite risks

The Ilam District Administration Office has announced that vehicles can temporarily use the Ilam–Tilkeni–Banjbedi–Namsaling–Nayabazar–Fikkal road section as an alternative to the Mechi Highway. In a notice issued on Sunday, the administration stated that the Maikhola–Rajduwali section remains closed due to geological risks.

Inquiry Commission seeks details of property damage during September protests

The Inquiry Commission formed to investigate the physical and human losses incurred during the protests of September 8 and 9  has called on concerned parties to submit detailed reports of damages to political parties, organizations, and private or public properties. According to Commission spokesperson Bigyan Raj Sharma, the Commission, formed under Section 3 of the Inquiry Commission Act, 2026 BS, has been carrying out investigations since September 25. It has requested that affected individuals and institutions provide the type and estimated cost of the damage, along with clarification on whether the damaged property was insured.

Thai Lion Air flight diverted to Lucknow after missed approach at TIA

A Thai Lion Air flight bound for Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) was diverted to Lucknow, India, after it was unable to land in Kathmandu due to a missed approach. According to officials at the TIA, flight number TLM 220, which had departed from Bangkok, Thailand, could not land as expected and was rerouted to Lucknow.

NEPSE closes with a sharp drop of 78.83 points

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Sunday witnessed a significant decline, falling by 78.83 points (3.05%) to close at 2,503.35. This follows a loss of 22.59 points in the previous trading session. The benchmark index opened at 2,583.97 and reached an intraday high of 2,584.24 before dipping to a low of 2,493.16.

Pakistan shuts border with Afghanistan after cross-border clashes

Pakistan closed several border crossings with Afghanistan on Sunday following cross-border gunfire between the two nations, Pakistani officials confirmed. The clash began late Saturday when Afghan forces reportedly fired on Pakistani border posts. Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defence stated the attack was in retaliation for Pakistani airstrikes carried out earlier in the week on Afghan soil, according to Reuters.

Government recalls 271 security personnel deployed beyond VIP standards

The government has withdrawn 271 security personnel who had been deployed in violation of official standards for VIP and VVIP protection. The decision was made during a recent ministerial-level meeting, after which the process of recalling security personnel assigned to political leaders and other individuals receiving VIP protection was initiated.

Minister Kharel urges Press Council to focus on result-oriented action

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, has urged the office-bearers of Press Council Nepal (PCN) to undertake result-oriented activities that reflect the Council’s status as an empowered and autonomous institution. Speaking at a program organized by the PCN in Kathmandu today, Minister Kharel emphasized the importance of the Council’s role, especially as preparations intensify for the upcoming House of Representatives election. He stressed that the Council should be visibly proactive in regulating the media space and ensuring its credibility.

Repairs begin as temporary tracks open on BP Highway

With the opening of temporary tracks on several flood-damaged sections of the BP Highway, repair work has now commenced. The highway, which had been blocked by floods for a week, was officially reopened on Saturday morning. The Division Road Office in Bhaktapur reported that although diversions have been created in the affected areas, repairs are ongoing on the narrow and challenging stretches.

NSU files complaint against Balen and Sudan Gurung

The Nepal Students’ Union (NSU), a sister organization of the Nepali Congress (NC), has filed a complaint against Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah and Hami Nepal founder Sudan Gurung. The complaint alleges that during the Gen-Z movement on September 8 and 9, students were mobilized in school and campus uniforms to act as human shields.

Minister Ghising inspects flood-affected areas of Jhapa

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, inspected flood-affected areas of Jhapa district this morning. Minister Ghising visited damaged bridges and settlements in Arjundhara Municipality and Jhapa Rural Municipality, which were severely impacted by flooding from the Kankai and Biring rivers.

Gold price rises by Rs 3,000 per tola today

The price of gold has surged by Rs 3,000 per tola compared to last Friday, while silver has also seen an increase of Rs 40 per tola. According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, gold was traded at Rs 235,000 per tola last Friday. As of today, the price has risen to Rs 238,000. Similarly, silver, which was priced at Rs 3,085 per tola last week, is now being traded at Rs 3,125.

Property worth Rs 40 million damaged in recent rain-induced disasters in Jhapa

Recent rain-induced disasters have caused property damage worth Rs 40 million in the Kankai area of Jhapa district. Rajendra Kumar Pokharel, Mayor of Kankai Municipality, reported that the city suffered extensive damages during the disaster in the first week of October.
