PM Karki calls for promotion of overlooked tourist destinations
Prime Minister Sushila Karki, who also holds the portfolio of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, has highlighted the need to identify, promote, and develop overlooked tourist destinations to boost foreign exchange earnings, generate employment, and increase income. In a message on the occasion of the 46th World Tourism Day, the Prime Minister highlighted Nepal’s unique natural beauty, rich biodiversity, multi-ethnic and multilingual culture, and world-famous mountains as factors that make the country an attractive destination for tourists.
234 stalled road and bridge contracts to be terminated
A total of 234 road and bridge construction contracts that were signed but left incomplete for years are set to be terminated. The contracts fall under the Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office, including road division offices, the Postal Highway, and the Mid-Hill Highway. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, said that after discussions with concerned officials, 38 contracts under Damak, 75 in Kathmandu, 39 in Pokhara, 49 in Surkhet, 16 on the Postal Highway, and 17 on the Mid-Hill Highway have been found in a stalled condition.
Minister Pun visits trauma centre, assures free treatment for Gen-Z protest victims
Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Mahabir Pun today visited the Trauma Centre to take stock of the health condition and treatment of those injured during the recent Gen-Z movement. The protests, held on September 8 and 9 at the call of the Gen-Z group, had left several people injured, many of whom are still undergoing treatment at different hospitals.
Crowds at Gongabu Bus Park as people return to their villages
The major festival of Dashain is just around the corner, and crowds of people leaving the Kathmandu Valley are already visible at roads and bus parks. Due to the Gen-Z protests, poor road conditions, and other factors, advance ticket bookings were not opened this year. As a result, passengers have had to face difficulties at the new bus park.
Gen-Z Clinic soon to treat injured people of September 8 and 9 protests
The government has announced to run the Gen-Z Clinic in the Kathmandu Valley and other cities of the country to treat the people injured in the Gen-Z protests happened on September 8 and 9. Such clinics would be run in certain hospitals under the Ministry of Health and Population, which would facilitate identification of the injured persons and their effective treatment facilities, the Home Ministry stated.
50,000 security personnel deployed nationwide for festival safety
The Nepal Police have deployed approximately 50,000 security personnel across the country to ensure safety during the festive season. Central spokesperson of Nepal Police, Deputy Inspector General Binod Ghimire, stated that all security units nationwide have prepared and implemented a special festival security plan, deploying around 50,000 personnel in total. “We have coordinated with other security agencies and worked hand-in-hand with citizens to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for the celebrations. Potential risk areas have been identified and special monitoring increased,” he added.
Nepali Army rescues 56 people after Dashami festival tableau collapse in Janakpur
Nepali Army successfully rescued 56 people trapped when a tableau being paraded during the Dashami festival cultural fair in Janakpur collapsed on Friday night. The incident occurred at the premises of Mata Rajdevi Temple, where the tableau broke while being taken around during the festivities. All those trapped were safely rescued under the leadership of the Nepali Army, with support from the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police.
US to introduce $1 application fee for EDV from 2027
Nepali applicants for the US Diversity Visa (DV) lottery will soon have to pay a $1 fee when submitting their applications, a process that has been free until now. According to a notice published in the Federal Register, the US State Department has decided to introduce the nominal fee beginning with the DV-2027 program, which opens in October 2025.
UML secretariat meeting scheduled for Sunday
CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has called a meeting of the party’s Secretariat for Sunday at 1 PM. The meeting is scheduled to take place at his residence in Gundu. According to the party, the session will review the recent political developments following the Gen-Z protests and assess their impact within the party. Discussions are also expected on the party’s future strategy and new directives.
Home Ministry asks public to maintain peace during election preparations
The Ministry of Home Affairs has appealed to all citizens and organizations to maintain peace, order, and security across the country. In a press statement issued today, the Ministry emphasized that preliminary preparations for the upcoming general election have already begun. It called on everyone to ensure that assemblies, conferences, meetings, or protest programs are conducted peacefully, without violence, provocation, or disruption to others.
Oli challenges govt. to reveal his anti-corruption decisions
CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has challenged the current government to present before the public the anti-corruption measures and governance decisions taken during his party’s leadership. Speaking at a public gathering organized by the National Youth Association in Gundu, Bhaktapur on Saturday to mark the Dashain festival, Oli claimed that his governments consistently prioritized transparency and impartiality.
KP Oli says govt must provide security even if facilities are denied
CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that while the government may deny certain facilities, it has a duty to provide security. Addressing a tea program in Bhaktapur on Thursday, Oli raised questions about the government’s inaction despite recent social media posts showing plans to track and surround his residence.
NEB releases SEE supplementary exam results
The National Examination Board (NEB) has announced the results of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) supplementary exam today. A total of 83,564 students passed the exam, the board’s chair Dr. Mahashram Sharma, confirmed. The supplementary exam was taken by 143,257 students, of whom 59,693 did not pass. The exam was conducted from August 14 to 22 29 for students who had either failed up to two subjects or were absent during the annual exams held in April.
Taskforce formed to search and arrest fugitive prisoners
The Department of Prison Management has urged the prisoners who escaped from different jails across the country during the Gen Z protests on September 8 and 9 to return to the prisons by October 6. The department stated that efforts are underway to bring back prisoners with the support and coordination of the Ministry of Home Affairs, security agencies and stakeholders, and clarified that a ‘Fugitive Prisoner Search and Arrest Taskforce’ has also been formed.
Tourism season fades in Thamel amid political turmoil, security concerns

NRB issues unified directive with relief for protest-affected businesses
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has introduced a new unified directive that provides targeted loan incentives for export-based industries, businesses affected by the recent Gen Z protests, and enterprises disrupted by customs closures. According to the directive, export-oriented industries employing at least 100 women will be eligible for subsidized loans. Authorized institutions can lend at a rate capped at one percentage point above the base rate, provided the industry exports at least 25 percent of its total production with a minimum value addition of 25 percent. Such loans can be issued for a period of one year or until the industry resumes full operations.
