Five provinces likely to receive heavy rain today



KATHMANDU: Monsoon winds are currently influencing weather conditions across Nepal, with the monsoon trough positioned close to its average location.

The weather is generally cloudy across the country, while light to moderate rainfall is occurring in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, according to the Weather Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The Division has forecast generally cloudy conditions across the country today. Some mountainous areas may receive moderate to heavy rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. Moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning is also likely in many hilly areas and in some parts of the Terai in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

A few areas of the Terai in Madhes and Koshi provinces may also receive moderate to heavy rain with thunder and lightning. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Strong winds are also possible at some places in the Terai areas of Koshi and Madhes provinces. Tonight, the mountainous and hilly areas are expected to remain generally cloudy. The Terai areas of Koshi and Sudurpaschim provinces will also remain mostly cloudy, while the rest of the Terai is likely to be partly cloudy.

Some mountainous areas may receive moderate to heavy rain and snowfall with thunder and lightning. Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is also likely in some hilly areas.

Similarly, some parts of the Terai in Koshi and Lumbini provinces, as well as parts of the Terai in Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki and Sudurpaschim provinces, may receive moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning.
