HoR elections in Nepal to take place on March 5, 2026

KATHMANDU: Elections to the recently dissolved House of Representatives are scheduled to take place on March 5, 2026.

Newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki made her first major decision by recommending the dissolution of Parliament, a move swiftly approved by President Ram Chandra Paudel.

The decision was announced during the first meeting of the new cabinet, held at Sheetal Niwas shortly after Karki’s oath-taking ceremony. At the meeting, she addressed a longstanding demand raised by Gen-Z for political reform and institutional reset.

According to sources, Prime Minister Karki stated that the cabinet will be expanded within the next couple of days.

“The House has been dissolved — the President has approved the dissolution. I recommended it, and he accepted and signed it,” Prime Minister Karki said.

President Ram Chandra Poudel has administered the oath of office and secrecy to former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, who has been appointed Prime Minister of the interim government with a mandate to hold elections within six months.

The interim cabinet—formed in response to the Gen-Z protests earlier this week—has recommended the formal dissolution of the House to clear the way for fresh parliamentary elections.
