Dispute erupts among Gen-Z youths outside Army HQ over interim leadership

KATHMANDU: Gen-Z youths who had reached the Nepal Army headquarters to hold talks with Chief of Army Staff Ashok Sigdel after agreeing to back former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as interim prime minister have now split into disputes.

The disagreement broke out at the main gate of the Army headquarters, where youths gathered began arguing over who should lead the interim government.

While one faction supported Karki’s name, others raised slogans suggesting alternatives such as Dharan Mayor Harka Sampang and Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah.

Some youths even shouted that Karki’s leadership was unacceptable, creating visible tension among those who had earlier projected a united front.

The confusion and division at the Army HQ gate underscore the fragile consensus within the Gen-Z movement just as it seeks to enter critical negotiations on the country’s interim political leadership.
