Sunsari farmers rejoice as rain ends long dry spell

INARUWA: Farmers in Sunsari district are rejoicing after steady rainfall since Saturday night ended a prolonged dry spell, easing irrigation woes and reviving paddy cultivation.

The rains have brought relief to farmers in areas including Inaruwa, Koshi, Bhokraha, Harinagar, Barahchhetra, Dewagunj, Barju, Gadhi, Duhabi, and Ramdhuni, where lack of water had stalled plantation work.

“We were worried our rice fields would dry up and seedlings would wilt, but this rain has revived them,” said Chandan Mehata of Bhokraha Narsingh Rural Municipality.

Chief of the Agricultural Knowledge Centre in Inaruwa, Nil Kamal Singh, said farmers are now intensifying paddy planting in areas without groundwater facilities. Water levels have also risen in local streams and rivers, including the Sunsari, Budhi, Maria, and Gadan.
