HETAUDA: Bagmati Province Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama resigned from his post on Monday, submitting his resignation through his chief personal secretary, Chhatra Bahadur Lama, to the Office of the Province Chief.
Devendra Sapkota, spokesperson for the Province Chief’s Office, confirmed that the resignation letter was delivered to the Hetauda-based office at 1:30 p.m.
“Province Chief Deepak Prasad Devkota has returned to the office after receiving treatment, and the process to appoint a new chief minister will begin soon, possibly today itself,” Sapkota said.
Lama had attempted to submit his resignation in person on Sunday evening after a press conference, but returned when Province Chief Devkota was not present. He later signed the resignation letter and entrusted it to his chief personal secretary before leaving for Kathmandu.
Lama’s resignation follows his defeat to Indra Bahadur Baniya in the Nepali Congress parliamentary party leadership election on July 29. Acting on the directive of party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, Lama stepped down, paving the way for Baniya to lead the new provincial government.
