Heavy rainfall recorded across country: 151 mm in Lumle, Kaski

KATHMANDU: Various parts of the country have experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall over the past 12 hours, with the highest recorded in Lumle, Kaski at 151 mm, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

Other significant rainfall measurements include 130 mm in Sunsari, and 121 mm each in Dhankuta and Maipokhari, Ilam. The Department classified the rainfall in these four areas as “extremely heavy,” while many other districts also recorded substantial precipitation.

Meteorologist Sanjeev Adhikari from the department’s Weather Forecasting Division said eastern Nepal has seen the most rainfall so far, but the system is now shifting toward central and western regions. He noted that the rain is expected to persist until tomorrow before gradually subsiding.

Adhikari explained that monsoon winds are currently active over the country, and the low-pressure line of the monsoon lies slightly north of its average position, contributing to the ongoing weather system.

Districts experiencing heavy rainfall include Sindhupalchowk, Kaski, Parbat, Okhaldhunga, Taplejung, Panchthar, Tanahun, Khotang, Solukhumbu, Sankhuwasabha, Terhathum, Myagdi, and Jhapa, along with several other hilly regions.

According to the Flood Forecasting Division, the water level at the Modikhola Hydrological Station in Parbat is nearing the alert mark, prompting authorities to urge nearby residents to remain vigilant.

Earlier this morning, the water level in Kankai Mainachuli of Ilam also approached the alert threshold. In Sardul Khola of Sunsari, the level exceeded the alert mark, while at 1:20 am, the siren at the Budhi Khola Duhabi Hydrological Station in Sunsari was triggered after the water level surpassed the danger level.
