Bhanubhakta’s legacy vital for linguistic unity: President Paudel

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has said that all Nepalis should reflect on the historical fact that Bhanubhakta Acharya played a vital role in establishing linguistic unity among Nepali speakers around the world through his contributions to the Nepali language.

In his message of best wishes on the occasion of Bhanubhakta Acharya’s 212th birth anniversary, President Paudel paid tribute to the literary pioneer and extended greetings of happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepalis at home and abroad.

“Bhanubhakta made an incomparable contribution to the promotion of Nepali language, literature, and culture by transforming the Nepali language into the language of the people and advancing its development,” the President stated.

“As a pioneer of Nepali poetry and a promoter of the language, Bhanubhakta is also recognized as a representative poet of the early era of Nepali literature.”

The President highlighted that Bhanubhakta’s translation of the Sanskrit Balmiki Ramayana into simple, elegant, and engaging Nepali has played a significant role in raising public awareness and fostering emotional unity among Nepalis across the Himalayas, hills, and Tarai.

He noted that the Ramayana continues to resonate with everyone who values Nepali literature.

President Paudel further emphasized that Bhanubhakta’s Ramayana not only popularized the Nepali script but also conveyed timeless themes such as religion, duty, loyalty, and service—core elements that guide human life.

He further stated that true respect for Bhanubhakta would be realized only when his birthplace is developed as a historical and cultural landmark celebrating his literary legacy.

Remembering Bhanubhakta with deep reverence, the President expressed hope that his legacy would inspire all Nepalis to love, preserve, and promote their language and culture—strengthening mutual trust, harmony, and unity among the people.

Bhanubhakta Acharya, the son of Dhananjaya Acharya and Dharmawati Devi, was born on Asar 29, 1871 BS in Chundi Ramgha of Tanahun district.

To honor his contributions, Bhanu Jayanti is celebrated every year on Asar 29 by language, literature, and culture enthusiasts through various commemorative programs.
