CAN announces Rs 3 million reward for Asia Cup-qualified team

KATHMANDU: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced a cash reward of Rs 3 million for the national cricket team for qualifying for the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Asia Cup.

CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand announced the reward at a press conference held in Kathmandu on Sunday to brief the media on preparations for the upcoming third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).

Nepal qualified for the One-Day International (ODI) Asia Cup for the second time after defeating the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 44 runs in September.

Chand described the qualification as a significant achievement for Nepali cricket and urged the government to announce a reward for the team as well.

He also said the NPL had contributed to the country’s economy and sports sector. According to him, the tournament had been organised through coordination among the concerned stakeholders despite challenging circumstances.

Chand further noted that financial transparency and auditing had improved considerably in the second edition of the NPL compared with the inaugural edition. The third edition of the NPL is scheduled to begin on Monday in Kathmandu, with eight teams competing for the title.
