KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba visited the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday, accompanied by Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, amid mounting political pressure over the visit visa controversy.
The meeting comes after opposition parties disrupted Tuesday’s session of the House of Representatives, demanding Lekhak’s resignation over his alleged involvement in irregularities related to visit visas.
With the government preparing to present the fiscal year 2025/26 budget in Parliament on Thursday, there is growing pressure to resolve the political deadlock.
The next parliamentary session is scheduled for 11 am Wednesday.
Speaker Devraj Ghimire held discussions with party representatives on Tuesday to mediate a solution. However, opposition parties have remained firm on their demand for the Home Minister’s resignation, making it unlikely that Wednesday’s session will proceed smoothly.
The political standoff comes at a critical time, potentially delaying key legislative processes, including the national budget announcement.
