Govt’s Policies and Programs aim to transform development culture: UML Chief Whip Neupane

KATHMANDU: Chief Whip of the CPN-UML, Bhagawati Neupane, has said that the government’s policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year 2025/26 reflect a clear determination to transform the country’s existing development culture.

Speaking during the National Assembly’s discussion on the policy document, Neupane argued that there is no reason to oppose this year’s policies and programs, calling them more scientific, realistic, and relevant than those of previous years.

“We cannot ensure prosperity and happiness for the people by clinging to the status quo,” she said. “This year’s policies and programs acknowledge the weaknesses of the current development model and offer a new direction.”

Neupane pointed out that of the nearly 18,000 federal-level projects, many are either abandoned or unnecessary, which has hindered development progress. She welcomed the government’s commitment to overhauling this approach, stating that it was the first time a government had prioritized changing the development model.

She also noted that the new policies address many concerns raised during discussions on previous policy documents. Neupane highlighted the focus on strengthening the federal democratic republic, implementing constitutional amendments, and ensuring policy stability as positive aspects of the program.
