Kathmandu witnesses long-awaited rainfall

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu is experiencing rain accompanied by thunderstorms since Thursday morning.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, various parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, are witnessing rainfall.

The Division reported that heavy rain, along with thunder and lightning, has been recorded in several areas of the Valley, including Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur.

Rain has also been reported in Jhapa, Sunsari, and Solukhumbu districts of Koshi Province. Currently, rain with thunderstorms is affecting areas in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and the Lamjung region of Lumbini Province.

Although there have been brief intervals without rain, the division forecasts the possibility of continued rainfall throughout Thursday and into Friday.

Some areas of the Kathmandu Valley also experienced rainfall on Wednesday. This is the first significant rainfall in the region in the past seven months.

The Division further stated that skies across the country are expected to remain partly to generally cloudy throughout the day.

There is a likelihood of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in several hilly areas, particularly in Koshi and Madhesh provinces, and in isolated locations elsewhere. Light rain and snowfall are also expected in a few high hilly and mountainous areas.
