KATHMANDU: Fagu Poornima, also known as Holi, the vibrant festival of colors, is being celebrated with great enthusiasm in the districts of the Terai region today.

The festival, which heralds the arrival of spring and the harvest season, is also referred to as the spring festival. One of its key rituals, Holika Dahan, symbolizes the triumph of good over evil.

This is observed by lighting a bonfire and performing a special Puja to burn away evil spirits.

In the Terai districts, people are reveling in the spirit of the festival, joyfully applying vibrant colors, including red vermilion powder (Abir), to one another. Holi is also seen as a celebration that fosters social harmony and unity.

Among Nepal’s many cultural festivals, Fagu Poornima stands out for its unique significance, with participants of all ages celebrating with enthusiasm.

Meanwhile, the sale and prices of fruits and other daily essentials have surged in the Tarai districts as the festival continues to be celebrated.
