KATHMANDU: Royalists gathered at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Sunday to welcome former King Gyanendra Shah as he arrived in Kathmandu from Pokhara. The group, carrying Nepali flags, shouted slogans in support of the former king while raising objectionable remarks against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Among the slogans were, “KP… and, leave the country,” and “Our king is dearer than life, king, come save the country.”
While the slogans were in favor of King Gyanendra, they also included harsh language directed at the Prime Minister.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Rajendra Lingden, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal Chairman Kamal Thapa, and other royalist leaders were present at the airport to welcome the former king.
Despite their efforts, royalist supporters were stopped from entering the airport premises.
Security personnel were heavily deployed at the airport to manage potential risks and maintain order, in light of the increasing tension surrounding the royalists’ protests.
The royalists had also organized a public display on the streets to celebrate the arrival of King Gyanendra.
