Maoist leaders in Kathmandu amid political developments

KATHMANDU: Maoist leaders are returning to Kathmandu after pausing their Tarai-Madhes awareness campaign due to the current political situation.

Maoist Secretary Devendra Poudel confirmed that the leaders are heading back to the capital, citing the need to attend a crucial office-bearers’ meeting scheduled for Monday morning.

“The leaders are returning to Kathmandu due to the current political environment,” Poudel told Khabarhub, adding that the campaign has been halted for five days.

Their return comes at a time when supporters of former King Gyanendra Shah and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) are demonstrating in Kathmandu today.

The Maoist party had initially planned to carry out awareness programs in Bara, Parsa, and Chitwan on Sunday as part of their campaign, which began in Kachankawal, Jhapa, and was set to conclude in Kanchanpur on March 20.
