Home Minister calls for nationwide anti-drug campaign

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has stressed the need to expand the anti-drug campaign nationwide to build a drug-free society.

Speaking at the launch of the anti-drug campaign initiated by the Valley Police Office in Kathmandu, he highlighted the growing threat posed by drugs to individuals, families, and society as a whole.

He stated that the issue is not limited to the government and the police but is a matter of concern for the entire society.

Stressing the need for coordinated efforts, the Home Minister called for the active participation of all three levels of government in controlling drug abuse. He pointed out that various crimes are increasing in society, many of which are linked to drug abuse. Stressing the urgency of action, he underscored the need to extend the campaign to schools to protect future generations.

“I see the danger that an entire generation could be badly affected in the next 10 to 15 years if we fail to act now,” he said.

He directed law enforcement agencies to expand the anti-drug campaign nationwide and urged all stakeholders, including government bodies at all levels, to contribute to the initiative.

Lekhak also highlighted the strong correlation between drug abuse and rising crime rates, stating that drugs and alcohol are fueling social disorder, chaos, and criminal activities. He reiterated that effective drug control measures are essential to curb crime and maintain peace and order in society.
