KATHMANDU: The sixth edition of the Nepal Economics Olympiad has officially started today, bringing together 100 talented students from across the country.
The competition, which runs from February 28 to March 2 in Kathmandu, is sponsored by Sabita Group Holding and will challenge participants in economics, financial literacy, and business thinking.
A total of 1,724 students initially applied for this year’s Olympiad. After a regional selection round with 185 participants from all seven provinces, the top 100 students have made it to the national phase.
The competitors will now face a series of tests assessing their ability to think critically, analyze financial data, and solve complex economic problems.
The five top performers in the national competition will earn the chance to represent Nepal at the International Economics Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan, this July. Additionally, five other participants will have the opportunity to compete in the Australian Economics Olympiad.
The competition will include activities such as business case analysis, financial literacy workshops, logical reasoning tests, and simulation games related to real-world economic challenges. Experts in economics, finance, and education from Nepal will provide training and guidance throughout the event.
Deepak Bhandari, Director of Nepal Economics Olympiad, emphasized the competition’s role in preparing Nepali students to compete internationally.
“This Olympiad is not just a contest; it’s a platform to hone knowledge, critical thinking, and professional skills, helping our students face global economic challenges with confidence,” Bhandari said.
This year’s top competitors will also have the chance to participate in other prestigious events like the World Economics Cup, the International Business Olympiad, and the Economics Asia Convention.
The Nepal Economics Olympiad continues to foster an environment focused on innovation, learning, and excellence, setting Nepali students on the path to international success in the field of economics.
