Two injured as police open fire in Melamchi

SINDHUPALCHOWK: Two persons have sustained injuries as police fired rubber bullets and teargas canisters at protesters in a bid to disperse them at Ambathan of the district on Thursday afternoon.

According to Area Police Office, Helambu, Armed Police Force opened fire as the agitated workers and importers pelted stones at the source of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project at around 3 pm today.

Two protesters have been injured in the police action, said a member of the Melamchi Drinking Water Victims Struggle Committee Uttam Kumar Shrestha.

Shrestha said they had reached there after they found out that the new contractor was found using the equipment of Italian contractor Cooperativa Muratori & Cementisti (CMC).
