KATHMANDU: The 12th National Dress and Topi Day is being celebrated today with a range of programs emphasizing the cultural significance of Nepal’s traditional attire.

Organized by the Aware Youth Campaign Nepal, the day is being observed under the slogan “Nepali Topi: Our Identity.”

Since its inception in 2014, National Dress and Topi Day has aimed to reestablish the cultural identity of traditional Nepali attire, such as the Daura-Suruwal, Topi, and Gunyu-Choli, particularly among the youth.

Social media platforms are abuzz with pictures of people wearing national dresses, and the streets and public transport systems are witnessing an increasing number of individuals donning traditional outfits.

Originally celebrated on January 1st, the day has inspired a resurgence in wearing national dresses, not only on this specific date but also during cultural events like weddings and traditional fasts.

A special program marking the occasion is taking place at the Patan Durbar area today, with Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, among the attendees.
