Too much time in AC is harmful to health: Dr Dhungana



KATHMANDU: People, of course, feel comfortable to stay in air conditioning especially during summer season.

It is normal for the people to expect rooms equipped with AC while working. But do you know the side effects of AC? Doctors say people will suffer from a lot of health problems if they stay in the air conditioning for a long time.

Dr Ashesh Dhungana, chief of Chest Unit at Bir Hospital, says  asthma patients  should stay away from air conditioning.

“Asthma could even get worse if exposed to AC that is not properly cleaned or well maintained. Since cold air affects asthma patients, AC can can be harmful to them. Air conditioning will trigger coughing, cause dehydration lethargy and headache among others,” says Dhungana.

According to Dhungana,  people having asthma and other breathing issues, should stay away from AC and use prescribe medicine.

Other side effects: 

  • Lethargy
  • Dehydration
  •  Dry and itchy skin
  • Headaches
  • Increase of respiratory symptoms
  • Infectious diseases
  • Worsens allergies and asthma
  • Inability to deal with heat
  • Breathing Issues
