Health Ministry issues circular on minimum wages and benefits for health workers

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has issued a circular mandating that health institutions provide minimum wages and service facilities to nursing and health workers.

Dr Rajkumar Pandey, Head of the Quality Measurement and Regulation Division, informed that the directive applies to government hospitals, medical colleges, and community and private hospitals following complaints about inadequate service facilities, particularly for nursing staff.

The circular also stated additional allowances for work beyond regular hours.

Health institutions are instructed to formalize employment agreements, prohibit wage-based work, and refrain from holding original academic transcripts.

Furthermore, the ministry has directed that experience certificates be issued upon job completion and that salaries be paid through the banking system
