Vice President Yadav stresses dignity of people living with disability



KATHMANDU: Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has appealed to the concerned agencies to guarantee the identity and dignity of the people living with disabilities on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) today.

The IDPD is marked every year on December 3. On the occasion of the IDPD today, the Vice President extended best wishes to all the people living with disabilities in the country and abroad and underlined the need for enforcing their rights mentioned by the constitution.

He reminded Nepal’s constitutional provisions that people living with disabilities were ensured incentives and prerogatives in the public service.

“All of us need to make concerted efforts to elevate the lifestyle of disabled people by protecting their rights and promoting inclusion,” the Vice President said, adding that people irrespective of status deserve just and inclusive society and system.

The announcement to observe the IDPD was made in 1993, advocating rights, equality, inclusion and respect to the people living with disability.

Vice President Yadav wished the Day inspired all sides to work for equal participation of and opportunities to disabled people as enjoyed by others.
