SC summons govt over reconnection of electricity without clearing outstanding dues
The Supreme Court (SC) has summoned the government regarding the decision to restore electricity to industries without collecting outstanding dues in the ongoing dispute over electricity tariffs for customers using dedicated feeders and trunk lines.
A bench led by Justice Nityananda Pandey issued the order after a preliminary hearing of a petition filed by advocate Khadananda Kandel challenging the government’s decision.
The cabinet meeting held last Sunday directed the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation to restore electricity connections within 24 hours to industries where power had been cut.
NEA restores power to industries after arrears settlement decision
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has reconnected power lines to industries where service had previously been cut.
Chandan Kumar Ghosh, spokesperson for the Authority, confirmed that the majority of industries had their power lines restored last night, following a decision made at a board meeting on Tuesday.
He added that the remaining industries will have their lines connected today. “The board meeting made the decision yesterday, and by last night, most of the industries had their lines reconnected,” Ghosh said.
CIB interrogates Dhanraj Gurung over misappropriation case in Miteri Cooperative
Nepali Congress Vice-President Dhanraj Gurung was questioned by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the police regarding his alleged involvement in the embezzlement case related to Miteri Cooperative in Lalitpur.
According to CIB spokesperson Hobindra Bogati, Gurung was summoned on Wednesday, and his statement was recorded extensively throughout the morning.
“We took a detailed statement, and he provided it cooperatively,” Bogati stated.
Cabinet decision halts NEA’s dues repayment installment scheme for industries
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has warned that the installment scheme offered to industries with outstanding dues on dedicated feeder and trunkline usage may be discontinued.
The NEA had previously introduced a payment plan allowing up to 56 installments for these dues. However, following the Cabinet’s directive on Sunday to collect dues within 15 days, it now appears that this option may no longer be available to industries.
The NEA had issued notices to 49 industries, setting a deadline of Kartik 8 to clear outstanding debts accumulated between Magh 2072 and Baisakh 2075.
Ravi interrogated for 9 Hours in cooperative fund misuse case
Ravi Lamichhane, Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, underwent nine hours of questioning at the office of the district attorney, Rupandehi on Wednesday.
The former Home Minister faces allegations of misappropriating funds from the Supreme Savings and Credit Cooperative Limited, located in Butwal.
During the interrogation, conducted in the presence of police officials, Lamichhane was asked 50 questions.
Nepal qualifies for U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup
Nepal has qualified for the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup after defeating the UAE by 8 wickets in the final match.
Chasing a target of 84 set by the UAE, Nepal reached the target in 14.3 overs with the loss of 2 wickets, securing the top position in the tournament and a place in the World Cup.

COP-29: President Paudel to conduct high-level session
President Ram Chandra Paudel, attending the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP-29), will conduct a high-level session today on behalf of Nepal.
During this session, titled “Addressing Climate-Related Damage in Mountainous Areas,” Nepal aims to bring global attention to its climate agenda.

Foreign Minister Rana to visit China ahead of PM Oli’s trip

Gautam Buddha International Airport sees surge in international flights amid TIA upgrades
As Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu begins its daily closures for upgradation work, international flight operations at Gautam Buddha International Airport in Lumbini have surged.
With TIA now closed for 10 hours each day for expansion, flights are being redirected to Gautam Buddha International, leading to a notable increase in passenger traffic.

Sisne Khola section of Prithvi Highway to be partially closed starting tomorrow
The Sisne Khola section of the Prithvi Highway, entering the Kathmandu Valley, will be partially closed for one week beginning tomorrow, November 14.
Traffic will be restricted in the Sisne Khola area near the Nagadhunga Tunnel (Tribhuvan Rajpath).
The District Administration Office in Dhading has announced that the two-way road will alternate between being closed for 20 minutes and open for 20 minutes from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, from November 14 to November 20, due to construction work on the Nagadhunga Tunnel.
Priestess of Surkhet’s Deuti Bajai Temple found dead
The priestess of the Deuti Bajai Temple, a well-known religious shrine in Surkhet, has been found dead.
The body of 50-year-old Saraswati Raji was discovered hanging at the temple entrance at 4 a.m. on Wednesday.
Police arrived at the scene and have initiated an investigation.
