SARLAHI: Two people who fell into a pond in Sarkahi on Tuesday along with their car have been found dead.

A moving car plunged into a pond in Ishwarpur municipality, drowning its occupants.

According to Sarlahi Police, the vehicle, with the license plate Lu 2 Cha 6758, was traveling from Bayalwas in Ishwarpur to Gaushala in Mahottari when the accident occurred.

DSP Deepak Shrestha, spokesperson for the district police office, stated that the bodies Suresh Mahato, the driver from Gaushala Municipality-10, and Ramakant Thakur from Sonma Rural Municipality-8 were recovered by a rescue team from the Armed Police at 8:30 am today.

“One passenger, Janak Yadav of Gaushala-2, managed to escape by swimming,” said DSP Shrestha, noting that the other two occupants were found deceased.

The rescue team also located the submerged car.

The accident happened around 4 am when the car lost control on a narrow road and fell into the pond near Saraswati Higher Secondary School.

After locals reported the incident at 4:30 am, teams from the local police office in Kesharganj, Bhaktipur, and the Armed Police Force Sagarnath Base, along with Chinnamasta Bahini from Bardiwas, were dispatched to the scene.
