Agriculture Minister leaves for Italy to participate in meeting of World Food Forum
Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ramnath Adhikari, has left here today for Rome, the capital of Italy, in connection with attending the World Food Forum meeting.
Organized by the United Nations, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the event will run from October 14-18 and Minister Adhikari is leading the Nepali delegation comprising of Ministry officials to the forum, Minister Adhikari’s press coordinator Praveen Pokharel said.
House of Representatives, the Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources Committee president Kusum Thapa is also in the delegation.
58-year-old person arrested for alleged murder of 14-year-old girl in Dadeldhura
Tek Bahadur Bhandari, a 58-year-old businessman, has been arrested in connection with the murder of 14-year-old Aarti Bhattarai, whose body was discovered in the Pokhara market area of Dadeldhura on Saturday.
The District Police Office of Dadeldhura reported that Bhandari, who operates a book and stationery shop near the crime scene, confessed to the murder.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Sugandh Shrestha, Bhandari admitted to strangling Bhattarai in his shop after becoming enraged during their conversation.
29 water supply projects completed in Tanahu and Nawalpur
Twenty-nine water supply projects have been completed in Tanah and Nawalpur in the fiscal year 2023/24, the Water Supply and Sanitation Division Office said.
These projects were constructed under the supervision of the Office.
Engineer at the Division Office Binu Lohani said among the projects include 19 projects funded by the Gandaki province government in Tanahu and nine in Nawalpur, and one project in Tanahu funded by the federal government.
Nepal’s oldest irrigation canal suffers damage due to flooding
Chandra Nahar, the country’s oldest irrigation system, has suffered damage worth millions of rupees due to the recent flooding.
The dykes on various parts of the main irrigation canal have crumbled. The Chandra Canal was completed in 1928.
The irrigation canal’s embankment has been damaged due to flooding at two places at Diwan, Tirahut rural municipality-4, said Badri Narayan Yadav, the president of Chandra Nahar Irrigation System Water Users Committee.
3 killed, 2 injured in motorcycle accidents in Jhapa
Three people died and two others were injured in two high-speed motorcycle accidents in Jhapa.
Two youths lost their lives in road incidents in Kamal Rural Municipality and Mechinagar Municipality last night and this morning.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishan Kumar Chand reported that two youths died when motorcycle went out of control on the East-West Highway in Kamal Rural Municipality, specifically in Amaldangi-4.
Police advise travelers to use alternative route amid traffic disruptions on Hetauda-Kathmandu road
The police have urged travelers to consider an alternative route due to significant road damage on the highway in Indrasarovar Rural Municipality-2 and 3.
This issue affects the road to Kathmandu via Makwanpur-Hetauda-Kulekhani-Fakhel.
Police Inspector Lalita Dhakal from the Area Police Office in Bhimfedi stated that travelers heading to Kathmandu from Hetauda are advised to take the Tribhuvanarajpath and Kantilokpath routes instead.
Dhakal that local police are directing vehicles from Bhaise to Kathmandu via Palung on the Tribhuvanrajpath, as the road has deteriorated to the extent that small vehicles struggle to navigate the uphill section near Kulekhani Simkhola.
Minister Yadav pledges efforts to address concerns of people affected by Bhedaha River
Minister for Water Supply, Pradeep Yadav, today visited the areas affected by the flood from the Bhedaha River based in Birgunj metropolis-31.
The flood from the river triggered by incessant rains on September 27-28 affected life, particularly in Islampur and its surrounding areas.
During the inspection, the Minister interacted with the locals and promised initiatives to address their concerns.
One-way traffic resumes on Araniko Highway
Traffic on the Araniko Highway has been restored to one-way following a landslide in Panchkhal, Kavre.
The highway was obstructed last night around 10 pm due to a dry landslide in Panchkhal Municipality-8.
Vehicles began moving one way on the road from 9 am on Sunday morning after the debris was cleared.
Karnali apples capturing market share
Apples produced in the Himalayan district of Karnali Province have gained significant traction in the market this year.
Laxman Kandel, President of the Surkhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stated that the apples from Jumla, Kalikot, Humla, and Mugu have penetrated the market, significantly impacting the sales of imported apples from India and other countries.
Kandel noted that as local apples became more affordable, they found a receptive market in Surkhet, Chinchu, Kohalpur, and Nepalgunj.
“We have requested all concerned agencies to promote the marketing of Karnali’s apples. Additionally, we have urged local fruit traders to prioritize the sale and distribution of these local apples, which has had a positive effect,” Kandel said.
