Cooperative victims wave black flags against Rabi Lamichhane in Pokhara

KATHMANDU: Victims of a cooperative in Pokhara staged a protest against Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), on Tuesday afternoon.

Lamichhane, also a former Home Minister, faced a hostile reception upon his arrival in Pokhara for a party event.

As Lamichhane arrived at the Galaxy Banquet in Biruta, Pokhara, for a state-level program hosted by RSP, he was met with black flags and vocal protests from the cooperative victims.

The demonstration, which took place as Lamichhane traveled from the airport to the event venue, saw protesters gather outside and chant slogans accusing him of protecting those responsible for embezzling their savings.

The protesters, primarily from the Suryadarshan Cooperative, carried placards and shouted slogans denouncing the mismanagement of their funds.

They expressed frustration over what they perceive as political protection for the alleged wrongdoers.

In recent developments, Lamichhane admitted that his media organization, Gorkha Media Network, received illegal investments from the cooperative just the day before the protest.

The parliamentary committee has already questioned him for nine hours regarding the cooperative scandal, with 51 questions posed about his involvement.

Additionally, Kaski police have questioned Lamichhane in Kathmandu concerning the cooperative’s funds allegedly directed to Galaxy Television.

Despite being the Managing Director, Lamichhane denies any wrongdoing.
