Monsoon stays active; heavy rain likely today



KATHMANDU: Monsoon conditions remain active across Nepal, with the weather office forecasting widespread rainfall and warning of heavy downpours in parts of four provinces today.

At present, the weather is generally cloudy nationwide. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring at some places in Koshi, Bagmati and Lumbini provinces.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, generally cloudy conditions will persist throughout the day. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at several places in the hilly and mountainous regions, while some high Himalayan areas may receive light to moderate snowfall. Similar rainfall is also expected at a few places in the Terai.

Cloudy conditions are expected to continue tonight. Light to moderate rain and snowfall are likely in the mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in parts of the high hills and mountains of Karnali, Sudurpaschim and Lumbini provinces.

Likewise, moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is also forecast at several places in the hilly and Terai regions.

The Division has urged residents to remain alert, warning that heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hilly and Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, which could trigger localized flooding, landslides and disruptions to transport.
