Parliamentary committee discusses cooperative fraud with female operators

KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Special Committee, established to investigate the cooperative fraud case, convened a meeting at Singha Durbar on Sunday.

According to Surya Thapa, Chairman of the committee, today’s session included discussions with female operators of various cooperatives.

The committee has already recorded statements from 50 individuals related to 29 problematic cooperatives, and the report is currently being drafted.

The committee aims to complete the draft report within a week.

Among those interrogated is Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party and the former managing director of Gorkha Media Network.

The committee has indicated that the government could recover the depositors’ funds from the cooperatives if GB Rai and 17 other individuals, who are currently fugitives, are apprehended.
