NEW DELHI: United Nations chief Antonio Guterres has urged India’s neighbors to exercise ‘maximum restraint’ on the Kashmir issue.

UN chief Guterres also invoked the Simla Agreement stating Kashmir as a bilateral issue.

The development came to fore after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan urged to the international community to look at the situation in Kashmir with restraint.

He has also called on both countries — India and Pakistan – to ‘refrain from taking steps’, which he said could affect the status of Jammu and Kashmir.

He, however, has made no reference to any international role. Rejecting Pakistan’s proposal for ‘intervention’, he said he was ‘concerned’ over reports of restrictions on Indian-side of Kashmir. (Agencies)
