311 cooperatives registered in Karnali Province

KARNALI: Three hundred and eleven cooperatives are registered with the Land Management and Cooperative Registrar’s Office based in Surkhet.

The capital of these cooperatives has reached Rs 15 billion.

The capital of those cooperatives operating with their command area spanning the whole district and more than two rural municipalities is Rs 15 billion, Registrar Khum Prasad Subedi said.

There are 10 districts in Karnali province. Their share capital is Rs 1 billion 753 million 833 thousand and 142 while their savings us Rs 8 billion 194 million 493 thousand and 632.

The cooperatives have issued loans of Rs 11 billion 516 million 497 thousand and 940.

They have Rs 714 million and 268 thousand in their reserve fund. Registrar Subedi said that 1,500 people have been employed in the cooperatives.

The cooperatives in Karnali are related to saving and credit, agriculture, multi-purpose, consumer, herbal, vegetable seed production, social entrepreneurship, electricity, solar energy, bee-keeping, communication, small farmers, health, tourism, environment conservation, construction labour, dairy, cottage and educational, among others.

The Office said 102 cooperatives from Surkhet, 37 from Dailekh, 34 from Jumla, 32 from Kalikot, 27 from Jajarkot, 25 from Salyan, 23 from Rukum Paschim, 15 from Humla, 11 from Mugu and five from Dolpa are registered with the Land Management and Cooperative Registrar’s Office, Surkhet and operating in the respective districts.
