India’s Rajya Sabha passes anti-terror UAPA Bill

NEW DELHI: India’s Rajya Sabha (Upper House) has endorsed the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment (UAPA) Bill following a deadlock between the government and opposition parties over what has been billed as ‘controversial legislation’.

While 147 members of parliament stood in favor of passing the new changes to the anti-terror bill, 42 voted against it.

With this, the government will have the power to declare any individual as a terrorist. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Act is to fight terror and does not have other intention. (Agencies)
