UK to assist Nepal in climate actions

KATHMANDU: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced that his government will assist Nepal in its efforts to cope with climate crises.

The announcement was made during a special function organized by the Nepali Embassy in the UK, marking the centenary of the Nepal-UK Friendship Treaty on Monday.

The event took place at PM Sunak’s office, where he expressed the UK’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Nepal on economic issues such as trade, investment, and climate change.

He praised the contributions of the ‘British Gorkha’ in strengthening bilateral relations and recalled King Charles’ visit to Nepal.

PM Sunak also acknowledged the achievements of the Nepali diaspora in the UK.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, highlighted the enduring UK-Nepal ties and assured continued British assistance for Nepal’s development initiatives.

She emphasized that expanding economic relations could help Nepal transition to a middle-income country.

Nepali Ambassador to Britain, Gyan Chandra Acharya, conveyed best wishes from Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to PM Sunak.

He discussed various aspects of the 1923 Treaty between Nepal and Britain, noting that it paved the way for Nepal to expand its international relations.
