BIRATNAGAR: Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Friday called on party cadres to prepare for what he described as the party’s final “transformation,” saying another major political shift would emerge from the party’s upcoming unity general convention.
Addressing a Koshi Province-level unity gathering and training program in Biratnagar, Prachanda said the communist movement had repeatedly brought about political transformations and was now preparing for another decisive phase.
“We are people who have always challenged and transformed the existing order,” he said. “Another transformation will come through the general convention. You must come forward with courage.”
The NCP has proposed holding its unity general convention from November 27 to December 1. As part of the preparations, the party plans to complete ward-level conventions by August 31, and municipal conventions by mid-September.
Prachanda urged party workers not to be discouraged by criticism or abuse on social media, saying he viewed such attacks as a normal part of politics. He added that he remained ready to make “revolutionary” decisions whenever necessary.
“Move ahead without hesitation, fear or confusion,” he said. “Witness the final transformation and become part of it.”
The former prime minister also indicated that the NCP would soon deepen cooperation with parties affiliated with the Socialist Front while expanding collaboration with the CPN-UML.
“We will soon unite with our partners in the Socialist Front and strengthen cooperation with the CPN-UML,” he said. “We are moving towards cooperation in Parliament, on the streets and in the upcoming provincial and local elections.”
However, Prachanda clarified that there were no immediate plans for a formal merger with the UML, saying cooperation rather than unification was the current priority.
“We have not discussed party unification with the UML at this stage,” he said. “But cooperation in parliamentary struggles, public movements and elections can take the communist movement to a new level.”
He argued that broader unity among leftist forces would strengthen their political influence and parliamentary presence.
Prachanda also accused the current government of pursuing what he called “neo-liberal and authoritarian” policies, citing actions against informal settlements and customs measures affecting border communities as examples.
He further alleged that the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) was attempting to weaken the federal structure and the Constitution, arguing that closer cooperation among left parties was necessary to counter such efforts.
“We must ask ourselves whether we are prepared to become true communists,” he said, reiterating his call for cadres to be ready for the party’s next major political transformation.
