FNJ calls to implement Working Journalist Act



KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has called for the enforcement of the ‘Working Journalists Act (WJA)-2051 BS’.

A meeting of the FNJ Working Journalists Welfare Promotion Committee today demanded so noting that the media houses have remained reluctant to submit the list of posts and details of working journalists of the fiscal year 2076/77 to the Department of Information in the stated duration.

The committee also decided to pile pressure on the Department to disclose the names of media submitting or not submitting the lists of posts and details in order to implement the WJA and resolve complications seen in press pass renewal.

FNJ Chair Govinda Acharya, general secretary Ramesh Bista and FNJ Valley State Committee Chair NK Dahal, among others attended the meeting presided over by Committee Coordinator Ram Prasad Dahal. The FNJ has been repeatedly insisting on the government to fulfill its responsibility to implement the Act and the media houses also to respect and execute the relevant provisions of the Act. Coordinator Dahal said the FNJ was compelled to again launch struggle against both sides for ignoring their requests.
