KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has said that it will refrain from demanding the resignation of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane after the formation of a parliamentary inquiry committee.
It should be noted that CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli on last Friday expressed his suspicion that the Nepali Congress might seek Home Minister Lamichhane’s resignation even after the formation of the inquiry committee.
A Nepali Congress leader stated that NC has assured Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal that no demand for Home Minister Lamichhane’s resignation will be made after formation of the committee.
Nepali Congress has clarified that the Prime Minister aims to avoid a scenario where the Home Minister refuses to resign upon the inquiry committee’s establishment.
“We’ve conveyed to the Prime Minister that we won’t seek Rabi Lamichhane’s resignation,” the NC leader said.
The Nepali Congress has persistently called for a parliamentary inquiry into Home Minister Lamichhane’s alleged misappropriation of cooperatives’ funds.
Sources claim that Prime Minister Dahal has shown willingness to form an investigation committee to address cooperative issues comprehensively.
However, the ruling CPN-UML is hesitant about the parliamentary inquiry committee.
UML Chairman Oli, during the parliamentary party meeting, anticipated new demands from the Nepali Congress even after forming the committee.
