KATHMANDU: The country is currently under the influence of monsoon winds, with the monsoon trough positioned near its average location. As a result, weather conditions remain generally cloudy across Nepal.
Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is being reported in some parts of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as isolated areas of Lumbini Province, according to the Hydrology and Meteorology Forecasting Division.
The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country this afternoon. The Division has forecast moderate to heavy rain and snowfall with thunder and lightning in some parts of the Himalayan and hilly regions.
Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is also likely in parts of the Terai and Madhes regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as in the Terai areas of Koshi and Lumbini provinces. Heavy rainfall is possible at one or two locations in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.
Tonight, cloudy conditions are expected to continue nationwide. Moderate rain and snowfall with thunder and lightning are likely in parts of the mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as in the mountainous regions of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is also forecast at many locations in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces and at some locations in the hilly areas of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Similarly, moderate rainfall is likely at some locations in the Terai areas of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as in parts of the Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces. The Division has warned of the possibility of heavy rainfall at one or two locations in the hilly and Terai areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces and in the hilly areas of Gandaki Province.
Authorities have urged people in areas likely to receive heavy rainfall to take necessary precautions, citing the risk of flash floods, river flooding, landslides, and soil erosion. Such weather conditions could disrupt daily activities and affect agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, road transportation, and air services.
The Division has also advised the public to regularly follow official weather updates and warnings issued by the authorities.
