KATHMANDU: Talks between Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” and leaders of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) aimed at breaking the parliamentary deadlock are underway in Baluwatar.

The meeting underway at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar intends to address the impasse that hindered proceedings during the extended parliamentary session, particularly due to the Nepali Congress’s stance.

NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba along with other NC leaders are engaged in talks with PM Dahal, Baluwatar sources said.

The Nepali Congress has adamantly demanded the formation of a parliamentary inquiry committee, citing alleged involvement of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane in misappropriation of cooperative savings.

However, the ruling party has resisted this call, leading to the current deadlock.

As both parties remain firm on their positions, a deadlock persists in the parliamentary proceedings, prompting Prime Minister Prachanda to take proactive steps towards consensus-building.

Expressing the need for dialogue, Prime Minister Dahal has emphasized, “The Minister of Home Affairs deserves the opportunity to address the allegations against him. Denying him this chance goes against democratic principles. We must strive for consensus rather than clinging solely to our individual positions.”
