Breakthrough of Nagdhunga-Sisnekhola Tunnel (In pics)

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Physical Infrastructure Minister Raghubir Mahaseth, initiated the breakthrough of the Nagdhunga tunnel route on Monday.

The tunnel spans 2,667 meters from Chandragiri, Belambu, Dhading to Sisnekhola.

Although the tunnel was completed last August, it will take another year before vehicles can traverse through the main tunnel.

Remaining tasks include road slope work within the tunnel, installation of lighting, and oxygen pipes.

Originally slated for completion by June of the previous year, delays have pushed the timeline forward.

The tunnel features three underpasses aimed at easing traffic congestion and shortening the distance between Kathmandu.

Additionally, it includes four box culverts and one overpass.

The Nagdhunga-Sisneri tunnel project office outlines plans for three bridges and a flyover along this route, connecting the Kathmandu-Dhading section of the highway.
