NC to set parliamentary probe committee as bottom line in discussion with Speaker

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to set up a parliamentary probe committee to investigate the alleged involvement of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane in the cooperative scam as a ‘non-negotiable’ condition in discussions with the government.

During an NC meeting held at party President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha on Monday morning, past and current office bearers decided not to back down from their demand.

“We are prepared to discuss and explore the jurisdiction of the parliamentary probe committee,” said General Secretary Gagan Thapa, emphasizing, “Establishing a parliamentary probe committee is non-negotiable for us. The government needs to take this issue seriously.”

Thapa highlighted that unanimous agreement was reached on the matter of the parliamentary oversight committee during the high-level meeting today.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire has summoned party leaders to discuss the NC’s demand.

Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak are expected to participate in the meeting.
