KATHMANDU: Dr. Shekhar Koirala, a leader of the Nepali Congress, has underscored the imperative requirement for substantial modifications to the existing electoral system, citing its inadequacy in facilitating single-party majority in the parliament.

Addressing the Central Working Committee meeting on Friday, Dr. Koirala declared that the Nepali Congress would cease forming electoral alliances or collaborating with any political party at any level of elections.

“In every election tier, NC will refrain from engaging in electoral alliances or coordination with any political party,” he stated. He further emphasized, “The current constitutional electoral system lacks provisions for any party to secure a majority, necessitating a comprehensive overhaul.”

Dr. Koirala called for initiating discussions on this matter with other political parties, underscoring the urgency of a comprehensive transformation in the electoral system to improve the likelihood of any political party securing a majority.
