ACC Women’s Cup: Hong Kong sets a target of 94 runs against Nepal



KATHMANDU: In the inaugural match of the ACC Women’s Premier Cup, Hong Kong set a target of 94 runs against Nepal after losing the toss and opting to bat first.

Leading the charge for Hong Kong, Captain Chan Ka Ying Carey notched up the highest score with 21 runs.

Additionally, Maryam Bibi contributed 19 runs, Yasmin Daswani scored 15, and Natasha Miles chipped in with 11 runs.

Nepal’s bowling efforts were spearheaded by Puja Mahato and Rubina Chhetri, each securing two wickets.

Kabita Joshi and Sita Ranamagar also contributed with one wicket each.

The Nepalese squad, comprising Indu Burma, Apsari Begum, Dally Bhatta, Kabita Joshi, Kabita Kunwar, Kajol Shrestha, Rubina Chhetri, Sita Ranamagar, Mekkan Khadka, Puja Mahato, and Roma Thapa, showcased a commendable performance on the field.

Nepal, positioned in Group ‘D’ of the ongoing competition, faces tough contenders in the form of Hong Kong, Bhutan, and Maldives.

The ACC Women’s Premier Cup features 16 participating countries, divided into four groups.

Group A includes Kuwait, Myanmar, Singapore, and Thailand, while Group ‘B’ comprises China, Japan, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Group C features Bahrain, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Qatar.

Advancing to the quarterfinals will be the top two teams from each group.

The ultimate victors of the final will earn the coveted opportunity to compete in the Women’s Asia Cup later this year.

Additionally, the four semifinalists will qualify for the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup scheduled for the following year.
