ICC U-19 World Cup Cricket: Nepal defeated by Bangladesh

KATHMANDU: Nepal lost to Bangladesh by 5 wickets in the match held in the Super Six of the ICC U-19 World Cup cricket tournament.

In the match held earlier today at Bloemfontein of South Africa, Bangladesh attained the victory target of 170 runs set by Nepal in 25.2 overs, with 5 wickets in hand.

Jishan Alam and Ariful Islam scored 55 and 59 runs respectively to take their team beyond the Nepali total.

Opener Ashiqur Rahman (16) and Chowdhur Md Rizwan (15) were other notable contributors with the bat.

All five wickets were taken by Nepali bowler Subash Bhandari, who gave 44 runs in 8 overs he bowled in the match.

Six other bowlers used by Nepal went wicket-less.

Earlier, Nepal scored 169 runs in 49.5 overs after deciding to bat first after winning the toss in the match held at Bloemfontein of South Africa.

Nepal put up a par score with only debutant Bishal Bikram KC in the scoring board with the highest 48 runs.

Nepal was all out in 49.5 overs. Similarly, captain Dev Khanal scored 35 runs, Subash Bhandari scored 18 and Arjun Kumal scored 14 runs.

For the bowling side, Rohanat Dowlah Borsan took four wickets, Sheikh Pravez Jiwan three wickets and Iqbal Hussain Imon, Maruf Mridha and Zeeshan Alam took one wicket each.

Nepal will now face India in the match to be played on February 2.
