New Road businesses stage shutdown over KMC’s on-road parking ban

KATHMANDU: Business owners in the New Road area have collectively decided to shut down operations in response to the Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s (KMC) directive prohibiting on-road parking in the vicinity.

Expressing discontent and labeling the order as unscientific, business owners have opted for a closure, asserting that the move adversely impacts businesses during an economic recession.

Protesters argue that the decision to disallow public vehicles from parking in the New Road area will directly impact daily business operations, prompting them to take a united stand against the order.

To streamline the implementation of this directive, the metropolis has established a complimentary parking facility at Kathmandu Tower, offering a generous capacity for 300 four-wheelers and 700 two-wheelers, as confirmed by Raju Nath Pandey, Chief of Metropolitan Police.

The restricted zones encompass key areas, stretching from Dharma Path, Juddha Statue to Indra Chowk, Kichhapokhari, MahaBoudha, and the vicinity around Bir Hospital.

Khabarhub photojournalist Chirayu Shakya has captured the atmosphere in the New Road area, documenting the collective shutdown by business owners who are vehemently opposing the on-road parking ban imposed by the KMC:
