KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has expressed his hope that the 302nd birth anniversary of Prithvi Narayan Shah and National Unity Day will inspire the nation to progress towards social justice, good governance, and prosperity by embracing the late king’s Divyopadesh.
Divyopadesh is a compilation of precepts attributed to the late king Prithvi Narayan Shah, the architect of modern Nepal, outlining statecraft policies.
In a message, Speaker Ghimire extended his best wishes to all Nepalis, both within the country and abroad, on the occasion of the late king’s 302nd birth anniversary and National Unity Day.
“The Divyopadesh of Prithvi Narayan Shah remains relevant even after 300 years, promoting patriotism, achieving national self-sufficiency, and upholding good governance,” he stated in the message.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives paid homage to the late king for his crucial role in the national unification campaign, recognizing him as the leader of the movement to unify modern Nepal. He marked this day as the establishment of Nepal’s identity.
Prithvi Narayan Shah, the then king of the Gorkha principality, initiated the national unification campaign, laying the groundwork for building a unified modern Nepal. Despite the transformation into a federal democratic republic, the relevance of Prithvi Jayanti has grown, according to Speaker Ghimire.
“On this special day, I express my confidence that it will provide inspiration for the happiness and prosperity of all Nepalis, preserving the nation’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity,” concludes the Speaker’s message.
